Poems
I have taken inspiration from my childhood, true-life events, memories, and everyday observations in the hope that it shows some of me on a page. I use writing as a way of expressing myself and reaching people’s hearts and minds through poems and soulful stories. I hope this resonates with you too.
I am a writer who is disabled and I have been writing ever since I was young. During my time at New York University Abu Dhabi, I wrote lyrics that artists performed and recorded. I’ve written poetry that was and still is being performed at the notorious spoken word event, Rooftop Rhythms at NYUAD. I recently won an award from this also for the ‘Most Improved Poet’. Writing short stories and poetry is not only a passion for me but a way of expressing myself in a creative way which sometimes may be challenging due to my disability.

At my funeral
At my funeral
Mother earth sing to my grave
A mighty war song
Make my body clean by nature
Put grass on my body
I will hug you in death
Sing about my glories O dear family
Don’t weep at my death
Just cheer by the flame of memories
Dance on my funeral
Slow and ancient
Be joyous and merry
Put me in the boat of fire
Salute me to my spirit
